We've been working closely with a Local Authority to develop Move Smarter - Education — our all-in-one bi-lingual platform for managing school transport. The result? A 7% return on investment in the first year alone, with even more savings possible as Local Authorities make full use of the system's capabilities. The outcome: smarter, more efficient services for the learners who rely on them.


Move Smarter - Education streamlines the full school transport process — from application to daily operation — in one joined-up system:

  • Application Forms

    Parents and guardians apply online via the Local Authority's website, with applications submitted directly to Move Smarter via API

  • Entitlement Processing Workflow

    Review, approve, and allocate learners to services — or handle rejections and appeals — using built-in workflows.

  • Service Editing

    View services, campuses, learners, and stops on an interactive map. Edit services to add / remove stops as needed and configure which serve a campus, and where services connect - building up the connected service network

  • Service Allocation

    Allocate learners to services using a map-based view with overlays showing statutory walking distances and school coverage. A guided allocation wizard walks you through the steps, while the system calculates valid routes based on your configured service network. As you allocate learners, the loading list updates in real time to show the impact on each route.

  • Learner Cards - School Bus Passes

    NFC and QR-coded cards for learners to tap on and off. Also supports Crew, Assistant, and Ad Hoc cards.

  • NFC Handheld Devices

    Drivers initiate a service on our locked down device, confirming vehicle details for CO2 emissions reporting, then scan drivers / crew / learners on the journey, feeding into safeguarding, utilisation, and capacity reports — supporting safety and accountability.

  • Contract Management

    Manage contracts, operators, vehicles, drivers, crew, and DBS compliance in one place.

  • Dynamic Loading Lists

    Generate accurate loading lists, analyse capacity, and ensure efficient service usage.

  • SEND / ALN Support

    Create, manage and monitor SEND services differently to open/closed door services. Helping you to understand how this growing requirement can be better managed.

  • Data Privacy and GDPR

    Designed from the ground up to comply with GDPR and ensure responsible data handling.

  • Operator Access

    Operators manage crew data, DBS checks, and (from Q3) vehicle details — reducing admin burden and improving data quality. Operators also have a view on their services, routes and reporting.

  • Local Authority web portal integration

    In addition to application forms API, learners can scan or enter bus pass IDs directly into the LA portal to show route details

Procurement Made Easy

Kodergarten is a registered supplier on the UK Government's G-Cloud 14 framework, making it quick and straightforward for local authorities to procure Move Smarter without a full tender process. We're committed to making adoption as simple and compliant as possible.
